Dinner Invitation Continued

Dinner Invitation - You Are Cordially Invited to Dance and Dine Among the Stars ...

I'm creating a star chart for my dinner invitation. I haven't quite figured out the actual dimensions of the invitation, but below are the sketches for my concept. I've also attached my pictures and my content. I'm going to interlace the text from the obituaries with my own memories of my grandmother's and the menu for the event is my favorite foods that they made. The map will be an image showing directions to "the second star to the right and straight on til morning".

Final Packaging for Impression Typeface!

With your new Impression typeface, you receive a CD containing the typeface, a box of hand made crayons, a poster displaying the typeface and listing the paintings from which they were derived underneath, a magnet for your fridge and letter flash cards that show the painting from which the letter was derived and a short phrase displaying the typeface in use!

Impression Typeface!

For my third attempt, I stacked the crayons two deep in the ice cube trays and selected the colors based on paintings by the Impressionist painters.

Crayon Typeface Round Two!

I decided to do a little more searching on the Internet and found another website that suggested putting broken crayons into silicon alphabet ice cube trays. http://lets-explore.typepad.com/weblog/2008/08/alphabet-crayons.html

In my first attempt using this method, I filled the trays with only one level of broken crayons and I just randomly selected colors that I thought would pair well together. The key to melting crayons this way is to let the crayons cool and harden in the oven without moving them, so the colors don't mix together to brown. I turned off the oven and left them in there until they were cool. The first time I used the ice cube trays, the crayons were a bit too thin and many of them broke when I tried to take them out of the trays.

Melted Crayon Typeface Process

In my first attempt to melt crayons into letterforms, I found this website that suggested putting all of your crayons into an old baking dish and heat them in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes. http://dannyseo.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/08/new-crayons-from-old-one.html#comments

I didn't have an old baking dish, so I thought I would try melting the crayons in an old pan over the stove. Unfortunately, I used too few crayons and they melted together to form an ugly shade of brown - they also stuck to the pan and broke apart when I tried to cut them into shapes with cookie cutters!
